Step Away

The UK’s furlough scheme ends 30 September and employers who haven’t brought people back to work will need to make redundancies.

A lot has changed. Business owners are now analysing how circumstances are different for their customers and their suppliers. In many cases this has resulted in a total re-think of supply chains and customer offerings to get their company back onto a competitive footing.

Whatever the situation at work, if you are making redundancies, you still need to follow a fair procedure and give statutory or contractual notice. If you haven’t started yet, you’re unlikely to meet the 30 September date.

Or maybe you have decided to keep some or all of your employees working from home for either all or some of the time? If you are really embracing flexible working, you’ll have worked out that what can be done by your current employee working from home could now be done by a talented freelancer (same person - maybe or maybe not?) or outsourced to someone remote who lives in a cheaper UK location or even overseas. It IS possible to maintain an engaged and productive team of remote workers who feel valued and safe. We teach the steps - you make the leap.

If you want to maintain your profitability and control costs during difficult economic circumstances, you’ll be looking for the most efficient and progressive working practices. Everyone is going to need some re-skilling for the new ways of working.

Bold leaders will delegate responsibilities and decision making during this time, using technology to support communication and data gathering. Clear direction, focussed communication and a thorough training programme will be needed to maximise the benefits of the new processes. You may even identify people who are not able to adapt to new ways of working so you’ll need to manage them out sensitively. Tough times need tough decisions, although tolerance is needed to build an inclusive team.

I can help you - the business owner - manage the complex change process and maintain your position as charismatic leader within your (refreshed) business culture. I have an established track record of maintaining trust, wellbeing and stability during times of change.
