How much does it cost to go on the courses?
There is no charge for participants. Business Skills for Growth is funded by the European Social Fund.
Who can participate?
Business Skills for Growth is open to any small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Aberdeen City and Shire area. An SME is defined as a business with less than 250 employees.
I am self-employed and I don’t have any employees can I attend the courses?
Yes, self-employed people are eligible to participate.
How many employees can I send to the courses?
Organisations can send as many employees as they feel would benefit from the training at the University (within reason). We would encourage at least two employees from each organisation to attend to help the sharing of information across the organisation.
When do the courses start?
The courses are run in four cohorts.
Cohort 1: 16 February 2009 – 5 August 2009
Cohort 2: 22 June 2009 – 7 December 2009
Cohort 3: 26 October 2009 – 24 May 2010
Cohort 4: 5 April 2010 – 28 June 2010
You are welcome to attend any of the cohorts.
How do I register?
Registration is very simple. Please complete the online enquiry form or contact us by telephone, email or letter and a member of the project team will then contact you.
What time are the courses at?
The courses are run both in the evening and during the day to try and accomodate all participants.
How long do the courses run for?
Each short course has a three hour workshop at the university and further material online that participants can access at their own convenience.
In total there are twelve short courses and if participants satisfactorily complete all twelve courses and submit a portfolio of learning, they will receive a partial SCQF qualification.
Do I have to attend all 12 courses?
Participants are encouraged to attend as many courses as possible and to gain the partial SCQF qualification you must attend all twelve courses and submit a portfolio of learning.
However we understand that due to the pressures of running a small business this may not be possible and you are welcome to attend as many courses as you can.
Where are the courses?
The interactive workshops will be held at either the Aberdeen Business School or the Faculty of Health and Social Care in
The Robert Gordon University
Garthdee Road
Aberdeen
AB10 7QE
Participants can also access the online material via this website.
What if I have registered but I can’t attend a course?
Places on the courses are limited and if you have registered to attend but are subsequently unable to we would be very grateful if you could notify us at the earliest opportunity as another participant could benefit from your place.
